Gingerbread Week

Welcome to another, what I think will be FUN filled week!

Has your class developed Decemberits? It is harder and harder to keep them on track! I saw this and it sure made me laugh

So in an effort to combat Decemberitis I am pulling out all my BEST activities this week! Gingerbread!!!!

Here is a snapshot of a few version that I have..just a few ;)

To start the week I read the original version of the Gingerbread Man. We then create a story map on an anchor chart to help with identifying story elements

I then give my students picture cards to retell the story. 

For my higher students, I have them match the picture to the word and also the ordinal number

Then they complete either one of these printables

As the week goes on we read a different version of the Gingerbread man.

Gingerbread Boy, Gingerbread Baby, Gingerbread Cowboy and then the last day of the week I let my students pick which version they want to hear.

As we hear each new story we chart all the events of that book and see how it is the same/ different than the other versions

All of our literacy centers will go along with our books this week too.

Identifying beginning, middle and ending sounds

We also work on using words from the stories and sort them by the number of syllables, put the words in ABC order, and sort them by nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Another center my kids will work on is sentence scrambles. I have my students take 6 words that are all mixed up and put them back in order.

I also use a response sheet to check my students work and make sure they are staying on task.  ;)

They love to work on putting these together and I love how it helps them build sentences, write them correctly and build those grammar skills.

During social studies we are continuing our journey around the globe, learning all about how different countries celebrate holidays in December. This week I made a new flip book that can be used for any holiday!

There are 2 versions included. Higher student can write facts about the holiday and country. Other students can draw their facts for the countries and holidays. Best thing is that this book is FREE! Go grab it!! Click on the cover above to get it.
